Indigenous Cup

Hand-moulded Ceramic Cup with indigenous patterns and wild feline zoomorphic design painted with natural plant colors. 

The ceramic artcraft comes from an artisane workshop in San Juan de Oriente that arose from a solidarity-cooperation-project with german ceramic artcraft manufacturers from Höhr-Grenzhausen that provided technological equipment to the Nicaraguan artcraft producers and was acquired by CID Institute Museum in 1988

Ethnological Artcraft Sculpture

composed with myrmecophilic Acacia thorns and ocean-snail-houses of 4 different species, painted with acylic colors. 

The thorns belong to so called "Bullhorn Acacia" (for example Acacia / Vachellia cornigera) species that often are inhabited by painful stinging ants. The protected living space provided by the plants thorns to the ants attracts them as nesting site, meanwhile the plants so called "Beltian Bodies", leaf-attachments rich in protein, suggar and fats, provide food to the ants. The so established symbiosis or mutualism between plant and ant is called myrmecophily and protects the plant from enemies.

Reverse side with the national countries name REPUBLICA DE NICARAGUA and the portrait of AUGUSTO CESAR SANDINO, founder and reference person of the Sandinista Revolutionary Movement, portraited generally with his Sombrero-hat.
